The Ramblings of Nana

The rambling, raving and ranting of me. Who am I? I am a daughter, a sister, a girlfriend, a friend, a rolldog, a revolutionary, a peacemaker, a new attorney, an overachiever, a slacker and a lover of shoes. I am all of these things and more. I guess you could say that the blog is just about all of my experiences in life, love and the pursuit of happiness.

Spain

I never really have had a desire to go to Spain, but any country that is banning ultra-skinny models might need to be placed on my travel list.

Weekend

This weekend was quite fabulous. RL came down from NYC for a visit, we had our first little get-together at the new place and a good time was had by all. I also have just read a book called Who Moved My Cheese. I would recommend it to everyone who is having a rough time with finding a job, getting over a relationship or any other kind of change. It was great! Now, I need to get myself together for the week.

Old People on Bikes

It is funny how communities are built. I go to spinning class on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and my spinning class is definitely a community. Every community has one or two resident old folks and my spin class is no different. We have two older folks in our class who absolutely make my day. The first one is Ms. E. She is a feisty older woman of color who will quote Scripture in a heart beat and brings stuffed animals and attaches them to her bike for motivation. I LOVE her. My day isn't complete if I don't hear her tell me to "have a blessed day" when I leave class. The second person is Mr. P. He is an older Asian man who has got to be at least 75. He doesn't say much but goes through the whole class with this air of calm that I find impressive. Everyone is breathing hard and about to die, but Mr. P is just pedaling along like he is taking a leisurely afternoon ride. He is my motivation. If he can make it through back to back jump songs and sprints and then do a seated climb and not pass out there is no excuse for me to pass out. I mean really, he has at least 40 years on me! Oh well, off to work.

Brown is the new Black

While listening to the radio this morning, I heard something that gave me pause. NPR is doing a series on Muslims in America and apparently people are outraged. Some of the letters that I heard made me wonder what the hell is wrong with people and how many people have white sheets, crosses and matches in their closets. People thought that the five-year anniversary of September 11th was no time to listen to what Muslims have to say. I'm sorry but I find this absolutely preposterous. Yes, September 11th was a horrible thing and yes, the people who committed the heinous act were evil people who claim to be Muslim, but I'm sorry I cannot get behind the thought that all Muslims are evil. First of all, I'm sure that there were some Muslim people who were in the Twin Towers and the Pentagon who passed away. Are their lives less valuable just because of their faith? Second of all, people have said time and time again that the hijackers were crazy fundamentalists that didn't speak for the majority of Muslims. The "evil September 11th hijackers were Muslims therefore all Muslims must be terrorists" belief just doesn't fly with me. If I were to follow that reasoning, I would also have to conclude that all white people were members of the Ku Klux Klan and any fundamentalist Christian must be an agent of Satan. That being said, I am becoming increasingly worried for my Muslim friends and people who even look like they could be of Middle Eastern descent. This whole "kill anyone who looks remotely brown in the name of patriotism" business strikes me as jingoisitic nonsense. It seems to me that brown is the new black. It used to be that black people were the ones who were blamed for everything, now that focus has shifted to the brown people. I have to wonder who is next? I mean they are already up in arms over the gays so I'm guessing that in awhile after targeting all of the minorities, people are going to start discriminating on the basis of eye color or hair color or something equally as stupid. Kind of gives a new meaning to American Idiot doesn't it?

I'm not dead

For some reason I get a huge kick out of this picture. It is made out of veggies. Love it. Anyway, so I'm back into blogging action. The past three weeks have been a bit crazy, but I survived and I'm back.

The Move
The move went well. We got lots of help from MD &BD who were gracious enough to help us out after coming down off of their honeymoon high. Moving is the last thing that I would want to the weekend after my honeymoon but they came through and helped out. The Sensation's cousin and sister came and helped out too and all of those people plus the movers made for a relatively smooth day. I was bone tired at the end and we didn't have a bed so we slept on the floor but it didn't matter. By that time I would have slept standing if I could have. I think next time I'll pay for professional movers. The bootleg movers from Craigslist lost a whole bunch of our casters and screws and wheels after taking apart some of our stuff and they couldn't get my couch into the apartment. Now, you KNOW how I feel about my couch. Luckily, we were able to get some different guys to come and hoist it through the balcony window. I did a whole bunch of happy dances for that.

We slowly got things put in some kind of order and then my sister came up last weekend and helped us decorate and put things in order. I love my sister dearly and she did a great job on the house, but we can't be in the same place for more than 30 hours with no escape routes. By the end of the weekend I was past ready to put her back on a plane down South. She worked my LAST nerve. Anyway, so now our house is about 95% put together and we're unpacked and everything and I must say that I love cohabitation. It is nice to come home to someone every day and wake up with someone every morning. We have had our little tiffs here and there but it is nice to know that between both of us working and him also being in school, we will still get to see each other every day. Love it!

Things are going swimmingly on my end. I just need to land a new job and my life will be the way I want it to be. Let's think good thoughts and send good vibes so I get a new job in September!
